Bakhmaro mountain resort
Bakhmaro is a highland climatic resort in the Guria region (Western Georgia), located at an altitude of about 2,000 metres. The place is known for its unique microclimate, created by the mixing of healing mountain air with humid Black Sea breezes. The resort is surrounded on all sides by evergreen coniferous forests and alpine meadows. It is used for treating respiratory diseases, and its main attraction is the traditional horse races held every year on 19 August. The architectural character of Bakhmaro is shaped by distinctive wooden houses on high stilts, raised above the ground for protection against moisture and fog. The resort is popular for quiet relaxation amidst picturesque mountain landscapes.
